Mr. Kuehner, thank you for this piece. I am Canadian and know nothing of American politics; however, your general statements about the Fourth and Fifth Estates ring very true to me.
Due to situations in Canada, I and many friends have developed a distrust of mainstream media, believing them to be practicing political bias and sloppy reporting, a lack of interest in the truth, possibly caused by global conglomerates' focus on the bottom line at the expense of investigative journalism.
MSM outlets started the monster they must now feed 365/24/7, infotainment rather than information. Research is almost non-existent; interest in the various sides of a subject is starved because of the need to move onto the next "if it bleeds, it leads" story. The profit monster is starving the public of information and context, and the public is responding by turning to the blogosphere.
