Legacy Is Losing Out in Kindergartens

Using an "advisor" to get your kid into kindergarten? Especially one who thinks that admitting a sibling into kindergarten(!) might "throw Clorox into the gene pool"--whatever that means--and refers to "second tier" kindergartens? Also, these schools are dishonest in their admissions policies. They have few spaces because of siblings and legacies, no matter what Ms. Uhry claims. Are they really going to reject the sibling of the child of a rich donor or a famous person or someone on the board or connected to the board? No. Yet they take applications, for a fee of course, from all comers. I would say that private school admission in Manhattan is a lot like country club admission. It's who you know and how much money you have and if your child shows early promise, that's icing. Hiring an advisor to gain admission to these schools makes as much sense as hiring a "country club membership" advisor.
