I found this article to be very interesting in view of the fact that it chronicled the musical thread that connected Dizzy, Bird, and Clifford Brown, the Be-Boppers to Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard, the Hard Bobbers. I also found the brief discription of circumstances that surrounded his death with his girlfriend shooting him and the comment that Freddie Hubbard made to be a rather poignant refrain since rumor on the street has it that Freddie was playing down the street from Lee that same night and when word got to him that Lee had been shot, Freddie rushed down to Slugs and found Lee on the floor where he grabbed him and Lee died in his arms. Weather or not this actually happened is irrelevant although it does make for high drama, very folklorical, and a type of Jazz Mysticism. However, the two trumpeters, Freddie and Lee were very close and one can't help but wonder, as also in the case of Browing, what might have been if Lee Morgan had not experienced that shooting that night at Slugs.
