It would be a no-brainer to stop water fluoridation because there is no scientific evidence that it is a safe and effective method to reduce tooth decay, according to the October 6 2007 British Medical Journal. Stopping fluoridation would hurt no one and help every one.
Fluoride is neither a nutrient nor essential for healthy teeth. The fluoride chemicals used in New York City, silicofluorides, are waste products of the phosphate fertilizer indudstry which are allowed to be contaminated with trace amounts of lead, arsenic, mercury and other toxins.
Additionally, studies by Masters and Coplan show that children who live in silicofluoridated communities have higher blood lead levels. And higher blood lead levels have been shown to be linked to higher rates of tooth decay which is probably one of the reasons fluoridated New York City is experiecning a tooth decay crisis.
