Missing Playoffs Would Allow Giants To Rebuild
in response to reader comment: Your assessment of the NY Giants is very believable.

Really? Trade for Chad Pennington? Really? He will be 32 at the start of next season and he lost the starting job for the 3-11 Jets. Throw in the fact that he can't air the ball more than 20-25 yds downfield and any decent defense and DCoordinator knows this, suddenly your offense is confined to a small box of field to work with on every down and forced to throw all short passes. All Chad threw this year were quick outs or hitches.

Shockey has 2-3 more solid years left. He's no longer an elite pass catcher. However, he has evolved into an elite run blocker these days. It's widely known he has lost a step and doesn't get the same separation he got when he was younger and before his numerous injuries over the years. Toss in a broken fibula and he'll be lucky to go one a day in training camp next summer. How can you possibly say a broken leg, I mean, it's your means for moving, is not a huge deal. That's hardly as small as you think it is.

Our Oline is an great run blocking unit and a mediocre pass blocking unit. Watch the tape of the games this season. I love Diehl but we need a true LT to protect the blindside. Do that, then switch Diehl back to guard and suddenly our unit goes from above average to great.

I do agree that our D is one LB, CB, and S away from being truly special. And I agree that Burress is a top 5 WR (when healthy) but he also will be 31 at the start of next year. Meaning he has maybe 2-3 more years of top notch play and then there is a huge dropoff. See Harrison, Marvin and Toomer, Amani.
