I am the Greenburgh, NY Town Supervisor. I was pleased to read that Governor-elect Spitzer was able to help derail the attempt by State Legislative leaders to give themselves hefty pay hikes. I like Governor-elect Spitzer's suggestion that the hikes be awarded only after the State Legislators approve some important reforms.
SInce 1999 I have based part of my own salary on performance. Every year I post goals on the town web site (www.greenburghny.com). At the last meeting of the year my performance is evaluated by the Town Council. I give back part of my pay. I believe that the salaries of all elected officials should be performance based.
