Missing Playoffs Would Allow Giants To Rebuild

Submitted by BCReed, Dec 21, 2007 07:03

The article isn't totally off base, but REBUILDING, thats just crazy. As many people have pointed out the Giants are the third youngest team in the league with a lot of solid talent, not just young guys. They have an impressive offensive and defensive line, with quality backups at most positions. Our runningback situation will be very solid with Jacobs, Ward, and Bradshaw. Our recieving corp has a lot of young talent with a nice mix of veteran stability with Plaxico and Toomer. Shockey will be back and Boss is going to develop into an impressive number two. Eli is certainly a concern, his decline this year is somewhat startiling and needs to be addressed. The only point I would like to make is who are we going to get that is any better than Eli that has his potential. Even though I'am one of his biggest critics, I have seen flashes of brillance. I think a change in offensive coordinaters is neccasary and possibly the answer to developind Eli. We have under-utilized our talent to a shocking degree. I know each one of us out there wants to see more of Ahmad Bradshaw, his talent is pretty obvious to me but apparently not Gilbride. I dont think firing Coughlin is the answer unless we can get Cowher. Coughlin has come a long way this year and whether or not we desreved to be there we will be in the playoffs three years in a row on his watch. Keep in mind if we lose Coughlin, we lose Spagnulo, and I for one think he has done a tremendous job. I believe the defense needs most of the work in the offseason. I'm hoping th Kiwinuka expeeriment is over and he goes back to DE. This would futher solidify an amazing D-line. As for the LB, I think Pierce is our leader, Mitchell and Torbor are adequate. I've been waiting for Wilkenson to take over but maybe its not going to happen. I think Mitchell is fine as a starter but we need to address the other OLB position in the draft or free agency. As far as the DB's and Safteys are concerned Madison and Mcquarters are past their prime but adequate, Ross is going to be pretty good, I have to say I love Dockery, he is in great position most of the time even though some balls still slip through. Apparently Corey Webster is a bust so I guess he is not a factor. Basically we need to address CB in the draft and free agency as well. I'm not sold on either of our safties. Wilson is a mediocre saftey with a tendency to get caught up in the run game, Butler lost his job to Will Demps before he got hurt, he is very average. Wilson is workable and should be resigned. I really like Micheal Johnsom, I think hes going to be a very solid player in the future, but we also need to address this in FA or the draft.
