One must assume the "Republicans" you were referring to are all the aforemetioned in the artice save Congressman Ron Paul. Having said that, one would concurr in that few voters I know are looking for merely cardboard stand ins for a Bush third term ... with endless war and bigger government, unabated.
Philosophicly, if you offer thirsty people a glass of dirty water they will grudgingly drink it. Conversely, that is precisely why Ron Paul's campaing has "persuaded" more individual donors (126,000) to contribute to his campaign than almost all of the Bush Third Term Republicans combined.
