Kerrey Joins Gingrich On Plan for Elderly Care

Submitted by John P. Adragna, Dec 23, 2007 11:15

My wife and I have been paying for our own long term health insurance for many years. I am now 85 years old and my wife is 78. We pay almost $1000 per year for our coverage. Some long term care insurance companies give their insureds a rebate if they have been paying for coverage for a certain length of time. We do not receive anything. My question is: if I die without using a cent of my long term care insurance, can my wife, who is 7 years younger than me and likely to survive me, get any payback for all those years we paid those high premiums? We have had 2 raises in our premiums in the last 2 years alone. I doubt if I will be able to take advantage of my long term insurance. I now have a chrondo sarcoma on my vocal cord and there is a possibility that I will never benefit from my long term care insurance. We have been retired for many years and each year we find ourselves paying more for all insurance, which includes personal property tax, real estate tax, health insurance payments and medicines.

On behalf of all the eldery people in the country, we applaud your action on our behalf and we hope that we will be granted some relief from such a large tax and insurance burden. Thank you very much and continued success.
