The Gulag Testimonial
in response to reader comment: An important review (Adam Kirsch's) of an important book (Hiroaki Kuromiya's) ... but where are the readers?

Ad hominum assaults say more about the prejudices of the writers than anything about the murder and mayhem, torture and suffering of this period, which was many times the magnitude of the Holocaust. There are some other excellent and amazing books on this subject such as Death by Starvation about how the Ukrainian people were literally starved to death by Stalin and there is a book by an American woman imprisoned in a gulag for ten years for no reason. Truly the souls of those unjustly killed during this period -- the hundreds upon thousands of them -- cannot be told enough to avenge the dead. People need to educate themselves.
