Our country is well-served by citizen-soldiers with compassion such as Captain Southworth. And what a miracle that his request managed to get through two countries' beauracracies. Reading this story was a great way to cap my Christmas eve. Thanks for publishing it. p.s. The young man's name, Ala'a Edeen, has in the past been transliterated into English as "Aladdin." I happen to know this from my one-time study of Arabic in college. In my first class we were asked to choose an Arabic name we would use for conversation practice, and Ala'a was the name I chose for myself.
