Bloomberg Parries Clinton Criticism of Funding

Submitted by Gary Babad, Dec 26, 2007 07:46

While indeed Bloomberg can claim that he cannot be influenced by contributions, there is a significant downside to all that wealth once one is elected. As Bloomberg has demonstrated in his attitude towards public school parents, this Mayor who sent his kids to private schools has been totally insensitive to the lives of families who live in the real world. He insists on banning us from providing our kids with cell phones for the often long commutes on public transportation, in defiance of a City Council law; he reduces our safety concerns to a statement that we only want our kids to have cell phones to find out if they want "beef or fish for dinner"; he defies State law on reducing class size, when children like his get the benefit of smaller classes in private schools; and his PR machine sells his disastrous "school reform" to the nation as our schools are closed and principals are fired on the basis of a bizarre, incomprehensible rating system based on questionable data (data gleaned through an $80 million computer system bought on a no bid contract). People need to think twice as to whether he "cannot be bought", or whether his wealth simply puts him out of touch and above the law.
