I am very worried. There is no question that I and and many if not most MDs will be forced to close our offices if these increases are approved. Medicare and private insurers have effectively capped revenues of offices. This increase alone will force me to decide whether to send my children to college this fall, or pay the surcharge. I simply cannot afford coverage anymore if this increase goes through. I am relatively young, and I will be forced to potentially switch careers out of medicine, leave NY and practice elsewhere, or charge every patient who walks in the door a surcharge t cover the increased cost of coverage. The other potential possibility is for hospitals to no longer require its doctors to carry medmal coverage private health insurers to do the same, and then MDs will "go bare" transferring any and all assets to a third party and become judgement proof. I truly do not see any other choices.
