If the surcharge becomes law, there is no question I will have to close my solo internal medicine practice that has served the residents of Queens for more than 25 years. Health insurance reimburesments have failed to keep pace with inflation, office expenses, and malpractice premiums. In many cases, the payments for office visits have gone down. However, the salaries of the HMO CEOs have risen to 10s of millions per year. With Silver in control, there will never be any malpractice reform in this state.
