Doctors Fear Malpractice 'Disaster'
in response to reader comment: The whole picture

Your comment comes from someone without knowledge of what has taken place with the economics of medical practice. In downstate new york OB's income has decreased by more than 50% over past few years. With our overhead increasing ( malpractice, employee salaries, benefits, supplies etc) and insurance companies reumbursements decreasing it is not to difficult to see why incomes have decreased. What ever business your in I am sure as your costs increase you have the ability to pass on some, if not all, of the cost. DOCTORS DON'T! Our fees are fixed and failing. When you see 20 patients sitting in an OB office that equals to 20 x $20 copay= $400 plus the average insurance reumbursement would be $40/patient= $800. That day the doctor brought in $1200. Our malpractice premium is $170,000. I hope you can understand the crisis that is about to occur.
