Mayor Softens His Denial About Running

Submitted by millard, in NYC, Jan 3, 2008 07:26

He's not "independent" if he accepts one side's position on everything. For example, the premise that we don't have "relationships" around the world any more and they need rebuilding. That's not "independent." That's the Democrat position. Also, I think it's ominous that someone thinks the two party system is bad, and we should have no "partisanship," meaning no choice and no difference, just one-praty rule by elites who are smarter than the hoi poloi, the great unwashed, we "the masses" of ignorant fools. It's funny, 'cause the cliche complaints are usually "there's not a dime's worth of difference between the two candidates," and "they're all the same," but now Bloomberg is saying, "the two candidates aren't too much the same enough!" Or rather that if the candidates are "too far apart," he'd run. As for "special interests," (I'm really tired of using quotation marks), it seems to me that a single man with billions to spend pushing his agenda is a special interest, very special. Where's the democracy in that? Special insterests is a phase used to demonize and lump together every group of people from the Sierra Club to the NRA to GLAAD to Right to Life. If you've ever tried to give money to a cause, you've contributed to a special interest -- and why? So that YOUR voice could be heard above the billionares like Bloomberg. Bloomberg thinks that's bad. He wants to get rid of your voice in politics, and get rid of the "partisanship" so that he can make all the decisions for us and you'd have no say one way or the other. That may be fine if you agree with all of his positions -- banning free speech, noise laws, raising taxes -- but if you're not for these positions, you're out of luck. The fact that none of Bloomberg's positions differ much at all from any of the Democrats running makes me wonder why we need this. I can only assume it's because it makes him feel taller.
