the man is correct. having taught philosophy for more than 40 years, i find myself (a participant of the '60's "event.") embarassed by my colleagues enthusiasm for obvious claptrap. heidegger the nazi and all his children and now grandchildren continue to avoid the real questions thta Plato forced us to confront. i mean the difference between good or bad and better or worse. i certainly do not mean the difference between being and nonbeing. i wish the following new year's gift to all followers of the a la mode: read Plato's Sophist. i still remember the chill i felt when a young scholar at a conference announced with great self-congratulation: "I NO LONGER USE THE WORD 'TRUE.' FOR ME THINGS ARE EITHER INTERESTING OR NOT INTERESTING." SHE HAD NO RESPONSE WHEN I ASKED HER IF THAT WAS CUSTER'S REACTION AT LITTLE BIG HORN..
