An Eye-Opening Lower East Side Stroll

I enjoyed reading Francis Marrone's "Abroad in New York" article on a Lower East Side Stroll so much because it describes where my great grandmother, grandparents and my mother, 5 years of age, first lived when their dream of coming to America was realized in 1905. They were among the Jewish immigrants seeking a better life and freedom from Tsarist Russia.

I look forward to taking a walking tour of the historic lower east side one day and am excited about visiting the Tenement Museum. I believe it is important that children and grandchildren experience landmarks of their heritage.

I was delighted to discover in November, Jewish Book Month, a Lower East Side Tenement Museum Book "At the Edge of a Dream: The Story of Jewish Immigrants on New York's Lower East Side 1880 - 1920" in book store and purchased two copies to give to my grandchildren.
