in response to reader comment: My Uncle

Dear Julia,

Your Uncle John was an amazing man as you know. He was a hero to the people in Africa that he helped. It was a terrible thing to happen to someone so wonderful. I know he truly loved you, your brothers and sisters, your Mom and Dad, and your Gram. Missing him will be very hard but taking care of his dog will help a lot.

Whenever I think of you Uncle John I see a smiling person. He smiled when he was little and he smiled as a grown-up. He always made you feel like you and what you said were very important. He got that from his Mom. Being nice to everyone is hard work, isn't it. But it wasn't for your Uncle John. Look at all his pictures, play and take care of your new dog and know that he will watch down over you. Whenever you miss him alot think about something he did to make you laugh. And then help Mom and Gram smile. I've told my grandson, niece and nephews that in your heart there are little pockets that we can put our happy memories in, when we get sad and miss our loved ones we can just reach into that pocket and get out a happy memory.

I will say my prayers for you tonight and for your dog too. When I see you soon I'll give you a big hug and kiss.
