Desperately Seeking Visas

Submitted by S. Kolger, Jan 5, 2008 09:46

The people who are finding rising wages and full employment in the IT sector are definitely moving in different social circles than I am. As far as retraining H-1B replacements, hold onto your hats, gentle reader. Many large corporations do not hire full-time IT workers. They hire short-term contract workers. These contract workers are out on the street when the corporation can find a contract shop who will supply workers at cheaper rates. The corporations will bring on the new contract shop who hire primarily H-1B workers and sometimes pretend they are adding additional workers for a project. Or, they won't play the charade and just state that the existing workers needs to train the replacements in order to get severance pay. Either way, IT workers pass on their knowledge to new workers, then hit the unemployment lines.
