Exonerated of Rape Conviction, Man Is Freed After 26 Years

Submitted by Tom, Jan 5, 2008 13:16

Unless she was raped by two men and only one ejaculated, then mismatched DNA does indeed mean innocent (although the legal system rarely goes beyond "not guilty"). And I applaud the current DA for opening up old cases and all the old evidence to the Innocence Project. The story lede implies that Dallas County had an unusually high rate of false convictions, but the body of the story shows that the large number of exonerated defendants is due also to the openness of the current DA and the lab's policy of retaining old samples.
