Tuskegee Airmen
in response to reader comment: Congratulations,It's Been A Long Road

Submitted by r.o.harris@att.net, Jan 5, 2008 21:22

I am a fan of the men and women who made life-altering sacrifices to make this program successful, during a turbulent and divisive era in USA history. The courage, fortitude and hope of this American soldier and aviator makes be proud. I stand here today in awe of these American citizens seeking to practice their profession against tremendous odds. This group proved willing and able to pay the ultimate price to defend our country in a time of war.

Additionally, I have worked for a retired Tuskegee Airman with great satisfaction. Today, I am a PhD student working on a paper regarding this great group of American patriots and the history of higher education. I have a few questions:

What colleges and training facilities were under consideration besides Tuskegee Institute?

How was Fredrick Douglass Patterson, president of Tuskegee Institute involved?

Thank you for your response.
