Raines, Trammell Deserve Better Hall Balloting

Submitted by John M, Jan 5, 2008 22:56

In my humble opinion as a fan of baseball for far too many years, that the Hall of Fame suffers drastically from the influence of lobbyists and media hype. How else could you explain Joe Tinker, or Bill Mazeroski. The former's claim to fame was the poem and the latter's one home run.

Year after year, Alan Trammell was part of one of the best duos in baseball (him and Lou Whitaker) both hitting and fielding. Isn't that what the Hall is supposed to be about? If fame is the criteria, who the heck was more famous in his day than Bo Belinsky - and I sure hope you don't think his 28 - 51 - 4.10 belongs there.

I remember Jim Rice as one of the BoSox batters I dreaded to see at bat when the game was on the line. I also remember watching Alan Trammell dominate a game with both his bat and glove.

If indeed the Hall is supposed to be the home for the BEST, then both of these players deserve to be in.

Just my humble opinion, of course.
