Parking Plan Is Rebuffed by Teachers

Submitted by Helene Blount, Jan 9, 2008 23:36

A big thank you should go to Randi for this fight! Teachers already have an overwhelming schedule with the myriad of tasks for which we're responsible (i.e. planning, teaching, counseling, creating bulletin boards, completing massive amounts of paper work, assessing, assessing, and assessing some more). We don't need the additional problem of trying to find a parking spot, especially in MANHATTAN! It seems as though the Mayor wants BLOOD! Currently, I teach in a block where there are TWO schools and half of it is designated to those who are not teachers. The other issue is that alternate side of the street parking rules apply. Will it cause harm to anyone if teachers are given the courtesy of parking in front of their schools for a couple of hours? If the Mayor slashes the permits, it'll just mean we'll have to pay for parking! Is the goal for New York to just run ALL the middle class citizens away? Give us a break!!! Enough is enough!!!
