Harlem Residents To Square Off Vs. City Over Randalls Island

Submitted by a s. evans, Jan 11, 2008 01:29

I'm sure public school sports teams and boys and girls soccer and baseball leagues would like access to the Randall Island sports fields, and Harlem community leaders are right to cry foul when our billionaire mayor and 20 private schools have tried to lock up the fields for 20 years during primetime after school hours. These fields are for the use of all New York residents and not the select, wealthy few. With sports and open space at a premium in New York, field permits must be distributed equally. Kudos to the Harlem community leaders who are fighting for theirs and all New Yorkers' equal rights to use Randall Island's park facilities and and ballfields.
