Democrats and the Deficit

Curious that a free market-oriented publication such as the Sun would so completely overlook the considerable impact of economic performance on the deficit -- not to mention find fault with the party that had no role whatsoever in the FY 09 budget deficit figure, since the Democrats signed onto the top-line budget spending figures proposed by President Bush and did not add a net penny in taxes. In fact, it was the GOP that insisted on renewing the AMT patch without offsets, adding $50 billion to the deficit. So, "Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, and the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, are the ones to blame for the explosion in federal spending on their watch" ... ? In fact, President Bush proposed precisely the level of spending that was finally approved by Congress for the current fiscal year.

These facts are readily available and not in dispute. Consideration of them would have resulted in a more credible editorial.
