Bush is just as naive about Israel and the Palestinian Arabs living West of the Jordan River, as he has been in Iraq (the jury still out). He is pandering to the Saudis and other oil interests again, and truncating Israel's very heartland for an Arab promise of peace, not worth the paper it will be written on.
The bottom line is that Israel fought 7 wars to preserve it's existence, and is losing it peace by piece. What the Palestinians and their Arab cousins in Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq could not accomplish in 48 and afterwards, is now within sight of their (huge) armies and Palestinian irregulars (quickly forming an army).
Once Israel withdraws, no one will be able to stop the flood of Arabs into the new state, nor the smuggling in overtly or covertly of (heavier) weapons. Syria and Iran will become even more embolden, with a wishy washy, defeatist , non-incursion, peace at Israel's price, new President.
Bush's support for action against Iran if it obtains nukes is laughable. It did not take on a few speed boats, and we expect a massive bombing of Iranian nuclear plants and Revolutionary Guards? Give me a break. Destroying those boats would have sent a message to the mad mullahs, just as destroying Hezbollah would have put a real dagger into the Islamo-fascists hearts.
Hamas and Hezbollah are at least honest about their intentions towards the Jewish state.
Bush knows deep in his soul, that considering the Arab attitudes, peace is a long way off, if ever. The most that Israel should be offering is autonomony for the so-called Palestinian Arabs within defined boundries, guarded by Israeli security. Anything else is wishful and dangerous thinking. If Israel withdraws, it will be the beginning of the end.
