I hope the FAIRTAX passes. It will be laughed at for 100 years. What research was done on it? Did anyone ask the military (cause they have to tax even government consumption) what they will do if suddenly all their ammuntion, guns, jets, submarines, and Krations cost 23% more?
Did they call even one nursing home, to ask what they would do when they have to raise prices 23% on their patients? Did they call any cancer patients, and ask what they would do when their chemo and doctor bill have a 23% tax? Did they call any renters to ask what they would do if they suddenly had to pay 23% extra?
Or on the response of cancer patients, when they get 23% tax on chemo? Or reponse of nursing home patients when the get a 23% increase?
Did they call the Realtor lobby, and ask what they would do when new homes were taxed 23%? Did they ask the the home builder lobby what they would do?
I know what these folks would do -- they would scream bloody murder, demand - and get - exemptions. Cancer patients wont have to pay the tax, I guarantee it. The military wont either, same guarantee. Realtor lobby, same thing. No person in their right mind would buy a 300K new home, when it would cost them closer to 400,000. They would just buy a used home.
As one exemption was granted after another -- the 23% would mushroom to 30-40-50.
Reseach that. And you research that by calling a few nursing homes, and asking. Call a few cancer patients, and ask them. Call military budget experts--ask them what they would do if suddenly they had to pay 23% tax on a tank,a jet, sonar, Humvee?
