Our current crop of politicians from both parties, with the exception of Fred Thompson perhaps, have all sucumbed to the temptation of the Fabians of England of the late 1800's and early 1900's. It comes to me as no surprise that most will wonder who the Fabians were; most of the politicos have all fallen under the spell of the socialism that the Fabians endorsed.
Too many of the politicians running for office today, whether it be for President or a city council seat, have fallen prey to the lure of socialism. Forgetting that capitalism is what made us great and free they have instead adopted neo-Marxist tendencies towards socialism and state control of everything from energy consumption, tabacco use, fatty foods, public (mis) education and soon government controlled and paid for health care.
Edwards leads the lot of presidential candidates with Huckabee, Guiliani, Clinton, Obama and Bloomberg following closely. Almost all of them use class envy, a popular communist ploy, to try to attract votes and the poor education of Americans has many willing to abandon freedom and property rights to achieve some mystical cure-all for everyday woes.
Instead of having the opportunity to use their money to improve their lot or for corporations to be free to invest and make money many have surrendered to the Quixotic windmills of nanny government and socialist welfare statism. Public education and liberal colleges have failed to include objectivist philosphy in their curriculum and too many have never read a single Ayn Rand warning (book).
Between the myth of global warming (Now referred to as abrupt climate change.), the myth of an oil shortage and the cooperation of corporations pandering for political favor by surrendering their freedoms, Americans are at a point where the greatness of capitalism is quick fading away to the quagmire of socialism.
Our nation's founding fathers weep and perhaps in their 'heavenly' abode disavow their contribution to what had been a noble experiment but is now, or soon will be, just another failing socialist nation. Too bad Americans have been convinced by the leftists and 'Fabians' that capitalism only benefits the few while the many suffer its alledged depredation.
Today it is taken as normal for everyone and every business to expect government help. Look at New Yorks Erie canal. Instead of letting it go away or be taken over by private capital the legislature is simply moving its control to a different agency and everyone thinks that is so great. Well when are people going to explode and demand that their government quit trying to run a business? Probably never as the ideal of capitalism fades to the temptation of socialism.
The Fabians were a small group of socialists that formed in England in the 1880's. By slowly taking control of the liberal political parties they were able to apply socialist governance upon Great Britain. They achieved their ultimate success when Great Britain adopted socialized medicine. Great Britain has never been the same since.
