The idea that there is potential for soccer to in some way "take off" in the US has never been more than a marketing scam. Sure, Beckham could have done more, but it would not have made a bit of difference. With the billions of dollars collected by major sports, there is supposedly some pool of money available for soccer to tap into? Please. Beckham is in England because in England soccer matters, and soccer will not matter in the US in my lifetime.
