'Open Your Eyes'

There are immigrants who came to America wanting to become Americans. They are the ones with the imagination and courage to have uprooted themselves- to become part of another culture with another language, which they came determined to learn; then there are others who sought refuge among their own to ease their transition into a world that was strange and not always receptive to their foreigness, They ,nevertheless, inculcated in their children with the values and discipline that allowed them to bless this country with their, sometimes, monumental, achievements -and then there are the others: the ones who evince no interest at all in assimilating -who came to feed off the land and to make of it an extention of the land they came from. We do not need nor should we want the latter.
