A "pointless" war?
Yes, it was pointless because Israel didn't do whatever was necessary to win it.

Frankly, they just didn't kill enough people, knock down enough bridges, wreck enough highways, flatten enough buildings. So the jihadists still think they have a reason to fight again.

A war is only over when one side is so beaten that they cannot bear to continue. Unfortunately that only happens after lots of bloodshed.

In this case, the jihadists have had middle eastern Jews under their thumbs for fourteen hundred years. It's going to take a lot of killing to convince them to give up forever.
