The Saudis are probably already producing at capacity. So thinks energy industry analyst Matt Simmons, for example. Peak oil is real; the Saudi wells are already in decline. The high price of gasoline in the U.S. is in good part the U.S.'s own fault. The first oil crisis was in the 1970's. The U.S. has had 30 years to wean itself away from its addiction to imported oil. It is now paying the price. Hopefully this will spur innovation in alternative fuels.
