Americans no longer really want to go through a PROCESS to elect their president--and how long will it be before that same mania for instantaneous office holders spreads to other offices, such as United States Senators (grrrh), Congressional Representatives (double grrrh), or even governors (yikes!). The Media CLEARLY do not want a process. Some people raise objections, for example, Martin Luther King III, but willy-nilly we reorganise things, and rant in the press for the almighty POLLS (which, as I have repeated said in comments on this site, are ludicrous, and insubstantial perversions of statistical analysis anyway), doing all possible to make the process itself meaningless.

What is the point in having all the different primaries and caucuses, when we really want everything decided in the first week of January anyway? If we want to truly understand--at least as far as is practicable and possible--who the candidates really are, and what they stand for, we would go back to the true candidate-choosing, delegate-voting conventions, of an earlier (but not that far removed) time. Of course we will not, because we do not really want to get to know the potential candidates, or that for which they stand.

What we really want is people who scream the loudest, voicing our own selfish and mercenary agendas. Who wants honesty? Certainly a vast majority do not. Honest evaluation would mean that a lot of people's misinformed priorities would be laid bare for all to see their lack of common good. Honest evaluation of issues and national needs would require virtually all special interest groups to "come clean" on their erroneous claims and demands of all the rest of us.

Who wants a real nomination/election process? Very few indeed.
