Israel Temporarily Ends Gaza Supply Blockade

Submitted by Scott Baker, Jan 22, 2008 12:28

It's hard to imagine why anyone - that is, anyone who doesn't actually wish Israel would just disappear - would be against the blockade Israel imposed on the Gazaian branch of the Palestinians. Would they rather Israel drop cluster bombs in Gaza to stop the near constant shelling of southern Israel? Imagine how America would react if El Paso was bomber by a paramilitary group from Mexico. I dare say we would be a lot less patient and careful in our retaliation than Israel has been. When I read that 2 militants have been killed by Israeli soldiers, I ask myself, "how is it possible to kill so few?" Israel needs to defend itself, and making the terrorists too hungry to launch missles is as humanitarian a way to do so as anyone should expect. The only people who believe otherwise are probably among the protestors - mostly Jews - regularly appearing in Union Square south holding placards to "Free Palestine" without realizing the apparent irony of freeing a country that doesn't exist while wiping out one that does.
