Israel Temporarily Ends Gaza Supply Blockade
in response to reader comment: Isreal Condemns Itself

I am a decades long proud Zionist Jew, and want Israel to thrive and survive. I am convinced that every attack by the Arab was, and is designed to destroy Israel as a nation..and repeat Hitler's Final Solution of the remnants of world Jewry.

The current flap over the blockade however, and the backing down of the Israeli gov't to world pressure, just represents another foolish act by Israel, which seems to not know what to do? It left Lebanon years ago in a rush, without considering those that had sided with the Israeli forces (Lebanese Christians). That is still reverberating in both countries. The disengagement was publicized and thousands of reporters allowed to film and report on Jew vs Jew. In the end, Sharon's mistake was in hoping for a miracle. a move towards peace. It never happened. In fact, we all know Hamas has taken over the Strip and has no intentions of peace with Israel. It says so.

Israel's incursion into Lebanon to free it's 2 captive soldiers, and destroy Hezbollah once and for all, was poorly planned, and executed, riddled with politics (the UN was quick to declare a cease fire before Israel could prevail). Now, even with UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army, Hez is stronger than ever, better protected, and making moves to control the Lebanese gov't (with Syrian intervention).

The boycott of fuel was another respone to the over 6,000 rockets fired into Israel since the disengagement. The Israeli captive is still in Hamas hands., which is bargaining for his release, blaming Israeli obstruction (even though they commited the initial crime). It was hoped that Hamas would be hurt by the boycott. In fact, Hamas has typically been strengthened, by running to its supporters (UN, EU, Arab League, peace groups, and leftist groups within Israel itself).

Israel seems perplexed and incapable of making intelligent decisions about how to deal with its myriad of problems.

Perhaps if it sent a division of troops into the Strip, took Hamas and Islamic Jihad on directly, and created a buffer zone along the border...some of it's problems might be resolved, without allowing the so-called Palestinian people a propaganda victory? Israel has the might right now, but not the will.

And it should understand that once Iran tests an atomic bomb, everything will change in that part of that violence prone and unstable world.
