My late Dad once told me that there was a time when doctors to be, resident at a major hospital, were required to put in a certain amount of time at a clinic associated with the hospital.
Perhaps that was why the costs were less than when government got involved with Medicaid. Most poor people did not have any health insurance, doctors made house calls and took care of all ailments for all of the family.
The government got involved and Lo! and Behold! No more did doctors make house calls...doctors took up specialties and going to one primary doctor, once called the family doctor, he or she just sent a patient off to first an ENT doc, a Gastro doc, and so on till it became a round and round routine for Medicaid patients instead of the original doctor who now received Medicaid payments, paid high Malpractice insurance and did nothing but receive reports from all the other doctors.
One family doctor that took care of the entire family ended and thus it goes the same way whenever government gets involved. Impossible for any full oversight and the cost increases yearly.
It also happened with the colleges as the government got involved, the tuitions increased.
