The acknowledgment that the world's nations are interdependent isan superfluous, although accurate statement ImmIigration policy needn't and shouldn't be based upon an American vision of exclusivity.
Nonehtless, the wholesale ignoring our our national soverignty by many pseudo intellectuals is offensive and unacceptable. For example" why should children be expected to speak English"- these self proclaimed internationalists ask- rather than the language of their ancestors? ( I'm not referring to familiarity with their forefathers' tongue. Just the denigration of English even as the mother-tongue of the United States. Winston Churchill put it succinctly: " A nation's language is its soul".said Churchill.)
It's harmful to America's future to view legal immigrants condescendingly. It's offensive, as well, to listen to the total disdain voiced in so many places for "American" ways.
I support comprehensive immigration reform. The aforementioned considerations should not be overlooked.
