Now that there is an economic stimulus package on the way,naysayers are, predictably " coming out of the woodwork" "Who needs it>? they ask ( rhetoricallym of course).
Most predictably of all is Mayor Bloomberg's newly found, born-again you might say, Conservatism. Here's a man who proposed a 25% increase in New York City property taxes as Mayor (he winnowed that down to 18%)
The explanation, I believe is simple. Republicans are up till now unable to find a cllear conservative voice to speak for them. Now, Bloomberg probably reasons, is just the time for me to echo the Conservative message. He hopes Republicans will scamper to support him in the electoral race.
Of course, he never expressed his newly delineated staunchly conservative views when he actually was a Republican, , Strange. Or is it?.
