Groups Criticize a Report On Sushi-Grade Tuna's Safety

Submitted by Carl Eriksson, Jan 24, 2008 12:00

The so-called "Center for Consumer Freedom" is a junk food and restaurant industry front group that fights menu labeling, improvements in animal welfare, and defends trans fats, veal, foie gras, meat from cloned animals and biotech "foods." Contrary to its name, it fights laws that would protect a consumer's right to know what, exactly, is in our food. According to ConsumerDeception.com, it is heavily funded by fast food restaurants, tobacco & alcohol companies, Coca-Cola and bio-tech firms. Despite this funding, it has a "Please Help Us" link at the top of its own web site asking for donations, as though it were a grassroots charity. If you want to eat mercury-laden fish, that's your choice, but you have a right to know that it's not "health food."
