Rise in C-Sections Is Stirring Worry

Submitted by Dottie, Jan 24, 2008 12:06

Hi I am a Surgical Tech for a very busy L&D unit. I have a very important question. I have worked in surgery for many years and it has been the same wherever I have gone.First, the hospital provides our scrubs and when we go out of the unit or the floor we are required to wear a lab coat. But in L&D we have to wear our own scrubs from home. And when we leave the floor we do not have to wear anything over our scrubs. We also as Techs are expected to clean delivery beds and sometimes are ask to do the toilets. Then we are expected to go to the O.R and do c-sections. recently our infection rate has increased. My question and concern is, is this good technique for us to be using. I personally disagree and it goes against everything I was taught.
