Assembly Bill Would Open State Retailers' Restrooms
in response to reader comment: Retail Bathrooms

Imagine that you have a disease which causes your bowels to spasm without any prior notice, sending you frantically running for a bathroom before you soil yourself in a horrible way. Imagine how it feels to frantically run from store to store, door to door trying to find someone who will allow you to use their facilities, only to be sent away again and again while you frantically try to contain a watery explosion.

Do you want me to get to a bathroom, or do you want to sit next to me, soiled, on the train, or in your taxi seat.?

Millions of us suffer from health issues that are actually considered disabilities for this reason - our entire lives must be planned out around where we might have bathroom access. We have knocked on strangers doors, embarrassed to beg for the use of a toilet because the stores are for 'customers only'. Our jobs are affected, our travel anywhere is affected, and there is nothing we can do about it except live in exhile near a toilet at home, or pray for the compassion of other people who will let us take care of what you all take for granted. Thank you for the Bill - it would be a blessed relief for those of us living with diseases such as Chron's and Celiac.
