Cheer Up

Too many posters have only lived in golden times and have no idea how tight ordinary people lived just 40-50 years ago. Getting one new dress a season was the norm, eating out was a special occasion, like for an anniversary. One car per family and a black and white TV that the whole family watched. Long distance phone calls were for reporting births and deaths and brief birthday greetings. A ruined winter coat was a disaster.

Now even "the poor" live luxurious lives by comparison; thanks in large part to taking from the hard-working to subsidize the slackers and/or poorly-educated.

The bad news is that we now have much more serious crime and a country fractured over cultural issues and the tug toward socialism. That is far more dangerous to our long-term future than any temporary economic downturn caused by intemperate lending (God forbid the lenders deny loans to those incapable of repaying them and be accused of red-lining) and predatory borrowing (no one forced the fools to borrow or refinance their home equity).
