A good essay. I like the clear explanations of the terms used in the original. I especially like the use of the metaphor of walls to provide freedom. Indeed, it seems to me that the notion of walls satisfies the problem between liberal relativism and the left's desire to aid others (generously, and I only answer if the aid comes without strings) in that the wall(s) of sovereignty allow the individual culture to do what it thinks best while leaving others to do likewise. Will this commit atrocities? Perhaps, but freedom always has the right to commit horrors. It is at that stage when International Norms decide politically to react, or not, based not on theory, but practical considerations.
