Going beyond the realm of authors, and on to their creations--projections, or prophecies--would not Darth Vader be also proud? How about The Dark Lord himself, Sauron? Of course their are plenty of current and long-deceased megalomaniacs to shout "Hip, hip, Hurray!" to the implosion and self-destruction going on helter-skelter in our Western cultures and nations. It is just this type of mass flagellation, urged on by those in political power, many of the ultra-rich, and virtually all of the media (all of which represent the modern equivalent of Middle Ages-and-before aristocracy) which brought about the fall of Rome from within. It was no vast, invading army that brought on the collapse of Rome, but inner decay.

If they knew their own history, Islamic radicals would know that that is exactly what brought to an end their own golden age. Of course the vocal zealots never acknowledge their true history, for it is one of conquest by the sword, which puts anything the Crusders ever did to pitiful shame in comparison. Inner decay is what opened the door to Orwell's world of "1984." Unless the various "silent majorities" still existing in Europe and North America wake up, and quickly, we are witnessing what will develope into the beginning of the last act of the drama of Western civilization.

Alarmism? Hardly. The same kind of passifism and apathy allowed Hitler to come to power; allowed Lenin and Trotsky to grasp a nation; allowed Castro to clamp the vice of complete totalitarianism on a tiny island, and keep it there for decades; allowed Mao Tse Dung to enslave the most populous nation on earth, where it remains today, despite the surficial changes in economic policy. Alarmism? Hugo Chavez, a vulgar and uncouth bully, has followed in the footsteps of his hero, Castro. Alarmism? The projected 20% figure, of Islamic (primarily Arab) population in Britain, suggested in passing in Mr. Steyn's aritcle is not evern remotely far-fetched. This country is on a locomotive in the same direction with ILLEGAL immigration being promoted, even by otherwise conservative individuals and organisations, while anyone opposing the same is vilified as being against any immigration at all, to wit, xenophobic.

Alarmism? I wonder how many in Russia, after the October Revolution, felt that they had been alarmist--or wish that they had been. I wonder how many of the now obliterated peoples that used to inhabit northern Africa, before Mohammed's jihad to slaughter the infidel unbelievers had swept them all away, how many of them--their remnant--wished to God that they had been alarmist. An alarm is something to shake people from lethargy, to impending danger--dare I say it, doom?
