Police Union Seeks To Shut a College Loans Program

Submitted by Mialka Marte, Jan 28, 2008 23:00

A couple of my classmates and myself were trying to make the July academy but we had second thoughts about it.It's bad enough that their salaries were decreased from 43k to 25k and now this? College is expesive enough, and how do you expect someone to live making 12.00hr? The least you can do is provide new recruits with their uniform and their weapon.Do you really think that someone will put their life at risk for that amount of money, are you serious?Remember the Auxilary Officers that were killed downtown,it's a shame that because of that now Auxilary Officers are given a safety vest. We want to protect this Great City that we live in but we also have responsibilities that we have to take care off and unless you are 21 years old living with your parents 25K is not going to do it! And do not forget the student loans we have to pay after we graduate this year! No wonder a lot of us are having second thoughts about becoming a police officer, even a Cadet makes more money then they do.
