I've visited England as a tourist a couple of times and generally enjoyed myself. However, those visits were in the days before 9/11. At the time I felt no anxiety about engaging English people in discussions about any subject, including politics and religion. I mean, you know, Magna Carta, Robin Hood, Grand and Glorious Revolution, Shakespeare, Winston Churchill, the Beatles...surely a guy can say what he wants?!
Is that freedom of speech still in effect, or has the government's attitude seeped down into the general population?
