Lakers the Front-Runners in the Kidd Sweepstakes

Submitted by Steve, Jan 30, 2008 13:27

Not a bad idea, but I actually think LA would be better off trading Lamar. Why? Because he's essentially a point-forward. Between Kidd and Kobe, Lamar would never have the ball in his hands anymore, and he's worthless w/o the ball in his hands. On the other hand, Ariza fits a specific role (defending the other teams best perimeter player) and would be a key to any championship contender. I'd give up Lamar, Javaris, Mihm, a first-rounder, and maybe Sasha if the salaries didn't match.

The other thing is, if LA does get Kidd, do they play him at the 2 and move Kobe to the 3? I think they should, because 1) Kidd at the point would sacrifice a lot of quality contribution from the Fisher-Farmar tandem. Those two need to keep the same playing time they have now. And 2) Kidd is big enough to be a slightly undersized 2-guard.
