War Report Faults Israel for 'Serious Failings'

Had Israel's final days in the war, achieved success, namely the destruction of Hezbollah as a militant group, AND the release of the two soldiers..this commission would have not been necessary. That's obvious So, Israel wanted to know the whys? Olmert and the military have said repeatedly that collateral damage (killing of civilians) was of primary concern (even though over 1,200 Muslims, both Hez and civilians were killed (witness the destruction to Shia neighborhoods in Beirut. Had the IDF used it's awesome power, thousands more would have been killed, south of the Litani. It is thought that the better use of bunker busters..to totally disrupt Hez's tactics..would probably have shortened this war considerably, w/o using 50,000 reservists. But the commission is a good thing for Israel. It must learn from it's mistakes for the looming danger from Iran and it's alliance with Syria..the problems from a Hamas military now beefed up and more dangerous, the uncertainly of Abbas's leaderhip over Fatah, and the still out jury in Iraq. Olmert is being pressured to resign. If so, he would join a series of failed Prime Ministerships these past 20 years in Israel. Let's face it, there was only one Sharon.
