Sides Dig In on 125th Street Rezoning

The City of New York is clearly intent on letting no opportunity pass by to impose the will of the development community on the people of New York. Only when every neighborhood has been bulldozed to the ground and replaced by high rise buildings that are clones of ones erected in every other neighborhood with the same depressing set of retail tenants, will the City and its development cronies -- all of whom provide huge campaign contributions to elected officials -- have achieved their end. What does this mean for ordinary New Yorkers? A lack of affordable housing, the creation of low-paying retail jobs, the disappearance of small businesses, and the complete destruction of the character of New York, which until recently, has been one of the few cities in America that has retained any sense of being a unique urban place. Let's tell Amanda Burden (the Commissioner of the City Planning Department) and our elected officials that we won't stand for New York being hijacked by real estate developers. Stop this insanity!
